Dear Friend:
Hello.
My name is Cameron T. Haselhorst. I am 6 years old. For the past 3 years,
my family and I have hosted a charity event to benefit St. Joe's Pediatrics
Intensive Care Unit (PICU), in Phoenix, AZ. We have raised over $32,000 for
them so far. Our event will be held on April 11th, 2009 this year. Please
take a minute of your time and read my story.
I was born on October 11, 2002. I was only 2.11 lbs when I was born at St.
Joe's Hospital. The doctors and nurses at St. Joe's Neonatal Intensive Care
Unit worked long and hard to keep me alive. They did everything that they
could for my twin brother, Tyler, but Tyler lives in heaven now.
My first two years on earth were a little rough though. In 2005, I got really
sick. I almost died. I was back at St. Joe's, this time in the Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for over 5 weeks. I had to be put on life support
and the doctors said I had a 5% chance of coming home. My friends at St.
Joe's PICU once again worked miracles and I am a healthy kid today! My parents,
grandparents, aunts, uncles and all my friends call it a miracle, I don't
really know what that means..I just know I can ride my horse, Joe, feed horses
with my Papa, drive the tractor, laugh and play
that kinda stuff.
A lot of you came out to my Grandpa and Grandma's ranch last year for the
Superstition Paint Horses Open House. This year we are putting on a Golf
Tournament, Horseshoe Tournament, and Poker Tournament. Every penny goes
to St. Joe's PICU and is tax deductible. There are a lot of really sick kids
there and we want to help the doctors and nurses to take care of them. My
family says it is our way of trying to say 'Thanks'! We are all going to
work real hard to be sure everyone that attends this year has a great time
at the Open House. I think it will be lots of fun. We will have bouncies
for the kids (really BIG bouncies!), clown/face painting, an Easter egg hunt,
auctions, raffles, live bands, vendors, free lunch
.lots of fun stuff!
Special event this year is a 'Volleyball Challenge' between St. Joes and
Mercy Gilbert/Chandler Hospital!
